Some Reasons Clients Attend Therapy
People come to therapy for a variety of reasons. There is a misconception that someone must have experienced a tragic event or must be diagnosed with a mental illness to come to therapy. While some clients do attend therapy for those reasons, many clients come to therapy to address relationship issues, work-related problems, to better understand themselves, to learn how to regulate their emotions, change their thoughts and behaviours, and live a better quality of life. Listed below are some reasons clients attend therapy.

What to expect
Congratulations on taking an important step! Deciding to engage in therapy is a big decision, and I am here to support you throughout your journey. During our first session together (after your free 15 minute consultation), I will work on getting to know you better, completing intake forms with you, and better understanding what brings you to therapy and how I can help. We will work collaboratively on setting goals for our sessions together, and I will explain to you how I will be supporting you throughout our sessions. After our first session together, we will meet weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on the presenting issue, to work toward achieving your goals and addressing issues in your life as they arise. At times, we may use multiple therapeutic modalities in your treatment. I will also provide you with tools and resources in between sessions to better help support you. I aim to provide a safe, compassionate, non-judgemental space for you to work through the issues you are currently facing. The therapeutic relationship is said to be the most important component in successful therapy. We will work on building the therapeutic relationship throughout our sessions together. Clients often get the most out of therapy if they are honest with their therapist and themselves, including discussion surrounding treatment. I encourage you to be open and honest so that we can make the most out of our sessions together.
